What is Fraxel?
Fraxel is an advanced technology. It is a safe, non-invasive laser skin treatment which is based on FDA-approved fractional laser technology to restore your skin to its original texture: smoother, fresher, younger looking with improved tone. It erases unwanted brown spots, acne and surgical scars, smooths out fine lines/wrinkles, reduces large pores and skin discoloration.
How does Fraxel work?
Fraxel laser treatment works below the skin’s surface from the top down, addressing imperfections like fine lines, visible photoaging, wrinkles, scarring and age spots. Fraxel light energy stimulates the skin’s natural collagen, rejuvenating skin cells below the surface to help smooth the creases and pockets that cause wrinkles and scars. Fractional lasers penetrate top skin layers with light-based energy that stimulates collagen and resurfaces the top layer of the skin, making it look more rejuvenated and glowing.
How long does the treatment take to produce results?
Many people who undergo the treatment notice results within a week after their first treatment. Their skin feels smoother, looks less blotchy, and has a glow to it. The results depend on the issue to be treated. If the person undergoing treatment is doing a course, they may need to wait for the full duration of the course, which can be 5-6 months, to see the complete and best results. Usually, collagen will continue to develop even up to 3-6 months after the last treatment.
Is the treatment effective?
Fraxel laser treatments are gentle but effective. Developed in 2001, Fraxel utilizes “fractional” resurfacing technology. Fractional resurfacing helps repair and rejuvenate by inducing the skin’s natural wound-healing responses. Fraxel only treats targeted problem areas, so the results are focused and effective.
What issues does the Fraxel treatment target?
The Fraxel treatment targets the following issues:-
∙ Sun damage, fine wrinkles, and aging on the face, neck, chest, and hands but also on the arms, legs, and back;
∙ Certain cases of melasma;
∙ Certain kinds of acne scarring and surgical scars;
∙ To improve the crepiness and fine lines around the eye and on the eyelids.
∙ To improve skin texture and tone.
∙ To reduce precancerous lesions by replacing sun-damaged skin with new skin.
How does the Fraxel laser work for acne scars?
Many of the original studies with this laser were done on patients with acne scarring. It works well for acne scarring as long as the scarring is mild or moderate. If the scarring is deep or there is a skin sagging associated with the scars, a fractional CO2 laser is generally a better choice. If the Fraxel is used for deeper scars, expect to need a higher number of treatments than average.
How does the Fraxel work for sagging skin and wrinkles?
The Fraxel does not work well for sagging skin but it has a modest yet noticeable effect on mild wrinkles. It’s not the best choice for deep wrinkles and wrinkles associated with volume loss and sagging. For wrinkles, younger patients in their 30-50s will generally get the best results with this laser. It still has a very positive effect on sun damage and texture changes due to sun damage if a 3-5 treatment course is performed.
The procedure in Dr Ashish Dutta’s Clinic.
A typical Fraxel laser skin treatment/resurfacing is performed in a single session, following a consultation with a doctor/nurse. The skin is cleansed and then a solution is applied to the treatment area. Local anaesthesia is applied to increase patient comfort during the procedure before the Laser is passed over the surface of the desired area(s).
The technology behind Fraxel laser is as revolutionary as the results it delivers. Unlike other laser treatments, Fraxel skin resurfacing treatments deliver energy deep into the dermis (deepest layer of skin) in thousands of small dots, by using pinpoint laser beams, with the surrounding areas unaffected. These unaffected areas help speed up the healing process while the treated areas promote skin rejuvenation. Thus by stimulating the body’s own healing process it replaces damaged skin with fresh, glowing, healthier skin.
What is the usual downtime and recovery period required?
Fraxel Laser treatments are safe and very effective, with minimal risk and downtime. Usually two to three days, so Friday is an ideal time to have this treatment so you can be back to work by Monday. It is advisable to limit the sun exposure for some weeks after treatment.
